Following the recent change at the top in the petroleum ministry, Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) chief Anil Ambani today met the new minister, S Jaipal Reddy, and sought natural gas allocation for his group’s power projects.
Ambani is also learnt to have called on telecom minister Kapil Sibal in the backdrop of the ongoing 2G spectrum scam investigation. While Ambani was doing the rounds of the ministerial corridors, stocks of his various group companies were being hammered at the stock exchanges.
"He (Anil Ambani) is interested in power projects. He met me in that connection," Reddy told reporters after the meeting which lasted about an hour. The ADA Group’s Reliance Power is building a 2,400-Mw unit adjacent to its Samalkot plant in Andhra Pradesh and needs about eight million standard cubic metres per day of gas.
Reddy confirmed the ADAG chairman sought natural gas for power projects, but refused to give details. Ambani did not make any comments after the meeting.
