Twenty-one-year-old rookie Junaid Khan has replaced Sohail Tanvir in Pakistan's World Cup squad.
Tanvir was recalled to the side for the recent one-day series against New Zealand after nearly two years on the sidelines with knee problems.
However, it was decided the knee has not sufficiently healed for the 26-year-old to play in the World Cup.
That opens the door for uncapped Junaid, a left-arm seamer who has been touted for an international debut for some time.
Junaid has been an impressive performer in domestic cricket since making his debut in 2007, and also took nine wickets for Pakistan A in a 'Test' against Sri Lanka A last September.
The ICC's technical committee approved the switch on Wednesday afternoon .
