Torres: Chelsea attack will click

Fernando Torres is in no doubt Chelsea's dream attack can all fit together and drive the Blues on.

The £50million striker's much-hyped first appearance in a Chelsea shirt failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, when Torres was eventually replaced after 65 minutes as the Reds went on to win 1-0 through a Raul Meireles goal.

Liverpool, who continue to improve under Kenny Dalglish following a fourth successive league victory, deployed three central defenders which limited the impact of both Torres and Didier Drogba, who were supported by Nicolas Anelka.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has vowed he will "try everything" to make the new system work, stressing it would not be long before they saw the best of Torres, who had only joined the club on transfer deadline day.

The 26-year-old cannot see any reason why such attacking talent cannot all slot together in a razor-sharp diamond.

"When you have good players you have to try and keep the balance, keep working on the system," Torres told Chelsea TV.

"There are a lot of good players here and a lot of possibilities and chances to play.

"We have to know that there are still a lot of games to come and we have to be ready to play in different positions.

"It doesn't matter because the main thing is the team."

While Torres admits Liverpool caught Chelsea out with the way they closed down any space in the central areas, the Spain striker maintains Ancelotti's men will not dwell on the result.

"It was very difficult, Liverpool played a good game, with three at the back, we were not expecting that and maybe they took advantage of that," Torres added.

"We didn't have enough chances to score, but we had two or three controversial chances at the end when maybe we could have had a penalty.

"I think the fair result was the draw, it was unfair to lose that game, but now we are looking forward to the next game and will keep fighting until the end.

"There are a lot of points still to play (for)."

Apart from an early chance when he latched onto a stray pass from Maxi Rodriguez and then fired his 20-yard effort over the bar and a close-range effort blocked by Jamie Carragher, Torres rarely troubled the Liverpool back-line.

The travelling supporters barracked their former Kop idol at every opportunity, and took great delight in his substitution - chanting, "You should have stayed at a big club" when he sat down in the Chelsea dugout.

Torres, though, preferred to look on the positive welcome received from the Stamford Bridge faithful.

"Obviously everyone wants to win, especially if it is their first game at home, but I will still have very good memories about my reception here and want to thank all of the Chelsea fans for that nice reception," he said.

"The result was not the best, but we have to keep going and fighting until the end."

Torres has joined up with Spain squad for their friendly against Columbia in Madrid, and insists there are no signs of the fitness problems which hampered him at the World Cup and for Liverpool earlier in the season.

"I am fine," he said. "I have had no injuries this season at all.

"I keep working on my form and keep improving and hopefully all the injuries are gone.

"I have to forget that and think I can play every game for 90 minutes."

Torres added: "It is important to be there with Spain. We are world champions so I will enjoy these three days, but I will be ready to come back as soon as possible to London to keep training and meeting all the people."
