PM to break his silence on scams tomorrow

New Delhi: Under pressure from the recent scams, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet editors from all major television channels on Wednesday.
Under relentless fire from the Opposition over the 2G scam, Singh will use the opportunity to set the record straight on a variety of issues at his interaction with editors, like -
* Did he succumb to pressure from the DMK on the 2G policy?

* If Government felt the first come, first served policy was flawed then why did he not change it?

* Was he aware of the Devas-Antrix deal?

* Why wasn't the deal scrapped earlier and why now?

* Why is the Government now ready for JPC?

* And does he feel that his own image has been bruised because of all the scams?

This strategy of the Government is a clear attempt to answer till now unanswered questions and also to make the Opposition uncomfortable over the 2G issue just as it has been.

But the BJP has decided to up its ante and now has attacked the Prime Minister directly. The BJP on Tuesday stopped short of asking the PM to step down but said they pitied him for being weak.

"I feel pity for the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It's fine to be a nice man but a weak person who is also the PM cannot fight corruption," said senior BJP leader LK Advani in Kolkata.

The BJP wants JPC probes on all scams, including Adarsh and S-band, but the Congress is in no mood to concede this. Though the Congress has agreed to a JPC, the party wants the JPC to look into the NDA era as well.

"The Bharatiya Janta Party seems to have perfected a strategy, which essentially can be summed up in two words - shoot and scoot," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.

It's unlikely that the BJP will be satisfied by the Prime Minister's answers.
