BCCI complains to ICC about comments on umpiring review system

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lodged a strong complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over a recent statement by Dave Richardson.

The ICC general manager had spoken about the ignorance of Indian players of the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS).

BCCI secretary N Srinivasan is believed to have written to Haroon Lorgat, chief executive of the ICC, on this matter. It is a known fact that the BCCI has been opposed to the review system.

“If MS Dhoni is made aware of the specifications of these rules, then I am sure he will accept the decision that was made," Richardson was quoted as saying in the media.

Dhoni was upset after an lbw appeal against Englishman Ian Bell was rejected by umpire Billy Bowden even after a review during the India v England match in Bangalore last Sunday.

TV replays showed Bell was struck plumb in front, but Bowden rejected the appeal because the distance from the point of impact to the stumps was more than 2.5 metres.

The exact contents of Srinivasan's letter are not known, but a BCCI official confirmed to this paper that the board is unhappy with the comments of Richardson.
