Bowlers weak, India won't reach World Cup semis: Kapil

India's World Cup winning captain says India's bowling attack wanting. India's batsmen piled up a mammoth 338 in Sunday's clash in Bangalore but the bowlers were exposed on a flat track, allowing England to squeeze out a thrilling tie. Cricket legend Kapil Dev on Wednesday doubted if India could reach the semi-finals of the World Cup if their bowlers continue to perform in the same manner.

India's batsmen piled up a mammoth 338 in Sunday's clash in Bangalore but the bowlers were exposed on a flat track, allowing England to squeeze out a thrilling tie.

India's bowling attack was also found wanting in the opener against Bangladesh who took the fight to their fancied rivals by almost touching the 300-run mark. Media reports claim Kapil believed India's could not reach the semi-finals of the World Cup if its bowlers didn't improve.

"We can see that (bowling is weak). I don't need to say it," said Kapil when he was asked about the performance of the bowlers.

The World Cup winning captain, however, clarified that India's bowlers could improve. "If you compare the bowlers with our batsmen, then yes, the bowling is weak. But that does not mean they can't bowl at all. They are the ones who have won us matches in the last two years," he said.

The former all-rounder added India should have won the game against England. "To a certain extent, the criticism is warranted. Even after scoring 338, we should have not lost or tied the game.

"Somebody scores a good hundred and you post a good total of 338 on board and then you come out with a tie, it's not ideal. In my opinion, England won that match. They played better cricket than India."
