NFL: Favre retires yet again

Legendary quarterback Brett Favre looks set to finally retire after 20 seasons in the NFL.

The Minnesota Vikings veteran has filed his retirement papers - not for the first time - but may actually see through his vow to hang up his cleats.

According to a report on the NFL website, league spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed Favre has filed his papers. However, he could request reinstatement at any time, as he did in 2008 and 2009.

He has been beset by injuries recently, with a shoulder problem halting his record run of 297 successive regular-season starts.

Favre said after Minnesota's end-of-season defeat by Detroit: "I know it's time, and that's okay.

"Again, I hold no regrets, and I can't think of too many players offhand that can walk away and say that. Individually and from a team standpoint, it was way more than I ever dreamed of.

"I don't know for me if it's ever easy. I'm sure throughout this year, the comment has been made that, 'We'll wait and see in August or September,' and that's fine. It's time. I'm okay with it."
