PGA Tour makes Australia donation

The Queensland Disaster Relief Appeal has received a £93,000 donation from the PGA Tour in America.

The donation has been made on behalf of the Presidents Cup and team captain Greg Norman, himself a Queenslander.

"It has been incredibly difficult to watch the pain and suffering caused by the recent floods," said PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, while Norman commented: "I witnessed the floods of 1974, which at the time were devastating, but pale by comparison to the current tragedy.

"My heart goes out to all that have been affected by the recent floods, but know from the resiliency, determination and deep inner strength and spirit of the people of my home state that they will rise above the tragedy and rebuild their lives.

"I truly appreciate the PGA Tour joining me in making this contribution and extend my heartfelt gratitude for all those who have contributed to the relief efforts."

Norman's fellow Australian Steve Elkington pledged support to the flood relief efforts by earmarking US$1,000 for every birdie he made during the Bob Hope Classic. He managed 24.

The Presidents Cup will take place in Melbourne on November 17-20.
